What is Alistar?

Alistar International is a Private Operating Foundation that was created for the purpose of “operating” programs, along with raising monies from other funding sources. Alistar is a tax-exempt not-for-profit organization, so we look externally just like any other not-for profit agency that is public, however, we are not public. This means that Alistar “lives” under a different set of rules regarding the public nature of boards, among other things.

Alistar Nicaragua, an affiliate of Alistar International, is an unusual organization in the country of Nicaragua. While strongly tied with Alistar International, Alistar Nicaragua is a Nicaraguan not-for-profit organization, designed exactly as Alistar International as a Private Operating Foundation

Both Alistar International and Alistar Nicaragua maintain virtually the same configuration of Board members. This creates more of a partnership between the Nicaraguan organization and the International organization. In addition, it allows for knowledge and experience to be shared among the two organizations, while ensuring a greater degree of autonomy to the Alistar Nicaraguan staff than they would have if they were only a “branch” of Alistar International.
